God is With Us

Every night we pray together as a family. At that time, we each keep a journal titled "God is with us" and we write down 1 way that we saw God that day and then we share it with the family. At first the kids' entries were very general but the other night, Noah and Jonah surprised me with what they shared. Jonah said that he saw God in "Noah when he served Mass and carried the crucifix up to the altar." Noah said that he saw God in a friend of ours' baby..."I saw God in the beautiful innocence of Toby and in the wonder of all newborns". I sometimes question myself...does it matter? Is all this(homeschooling, prayer, etc..) making a difference?? Sometimes it's hard to see with the arguing, sibling rivalry, disobedience...etc.. but it makes my heart rejoice to see the little bursts of light..that hopefully in time will brighten. I hope(as all parents do) that one day it will illuminate the Earth.

Everyday Savings

I wanted to share a few ways that our family saves money each day.
I'm sure many of you already shop at Hostess(Maple & Maize +) and Aldi(Lots of locations). If not, the Hostess outlet has been a great resource for whole wheat bread and whole wheat hamburger and hot dog buns. We pay 1/2 of what other stores charge for these. Of course they sell all kinds of bread, but we like whole wheat. I wish I could say I make all of our bread, but I don't...yet;) Also, Aldi has great prices on lots of food, from the world's best brownie mix to bags of apples for way less than Dillons, Walmart or Target. Another thing I like about Aldi, is that the store is small, it makes getting in and out very easy!
Just wanted to share! God Bless!!

Looking for an Affordable Vacation? Check this out!

Link fixed...just click on the picture and it will take you there!
I wanted to share one of my favorite money savers with you today!! Our family loves to travel, but we are on a fixed income, so through the grace of God, I stumbled upon this website a few years ago. We generally travel 2 times a year, once in the Spring, once in the Fall.
Here is the deal: you purchase 1 week for $199(7 nights) in your choice of resort and unit. We have been to Florida, Texas and Missouri with these. The benefits are staying in a condo with a washer/dryer, full kitchen, enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate all 8 of us. It's cheaper than a hotel room averaging $28.42 per night. You can stay less nights, but the price is the same. All the resorts we have stayed in have recreation on site including, pools, tennis, playgrounds, clubhouses, mini golf, lakes, fishing, organized activities, one had a small water park, and they have been safe and gorgeous! The units are available all over the world but is more available off season(works out just fine for our family since we home school) You NEVER have to attend a timeshare presentation or anything. Anyway, just a heads up if you haven't heard of this before. It's great!!

MyPoints..Earn Free Giftcards!!

Have you heard of this yet?? It's a great program to earn FREE giftcards, some of the places I like to redeem my points for are, Target, WalMart, Panera Bread, and Kohl's. All you have to do is sign up and everyday you receive emails that you open and click the orange bar that says "5 points click here" a new window will pop up, I just close those, unless I'm actually interested in the item. It's that simple. If you would like, I can add you as a friend, then we both get points!! I have a friend who is on disability and this simple program allows her to save up her points all year and then she can afford Christmas gifts for her family. Just respond either on FaceBook or on my blog, and give me your email addy and I'll send you an invite. By the way, you can sign up without an invite from me at www.mypoints.com but I would love the chance to earn points along with you!!

Discovering piano

video

Charlie was having a huge fit while I was baking in the kitchen. He crawled up to the piano bench and touched the piano....instantly it became quiet...except for the gentle notes Charlie had discovered. Piano music soothed his little soul. It does the same thing to mine. Hannah often plays the piano to put Charlie to sleep.

Welcome!! I finally made it out of the stone ages and now have a blog!! I really don't know what I am doing and hope you can all bear with me as I learn. My hope in creating a blog is to have some accountability in my life to help me become a better person. Today is Saturday, a perfect day to start since we are "off" from school. Our family's latest goal is develop a meaningful prayer life. It takes baby steps and I hope to expand our dedications in time. The most recent addition we have added is the daily Seven Sorrows Rosary, and it has been a real blessing in so many ways. Here is a link if you would like to learn more about it: http://http//www.immaculee.com/seven-sorrows.html

We are also in the process of simplifying our lives by means of cleaning out the house. We are preparing for a garage sale in 2 weeks....so much to do! I really like the idea of minimalism, but honestly, I'm not sure that is realistic...yet for me. I am trying to detach myself from material items, but it's so hard! Last year, a friend and I decided to have 2 garage sales a year each 6 months apart in hopes of decluttering. I have to say that it has become easier to keep the house more clean(not quite to the point I want) without so much stuff in the way. It's a process!

In homeschooling this year, our goals are to establish a Latin club and actually learn it!! We have studied root words but haven't ventured into an actual curriculum...yet. Also we will establish a Book of Centuries, which is a method used by Charlotte Mason. I think this will help the kids develop a broad understanding of a historical timeline and provide a great resource of understanding. The kids have also just started a "Peer Models for Autism" program where they will interact with autistic children. We are also starting an apologetics program to help us better understand and explain our faith. With 4 kids to teach this year, I'm a little overwhelmed but also can't believe how fast the past 7 years have flown by! Through the Grace of God we go!!

I also promise to post money saving opportunities as often as I find them!
