Love in a Bee Sting?

In the 13 years I have been a Mom, none of my kids had ever been stung by anything...until today. While walking through a field near a playground, a bee flew into Benny's shoe and stung him on the bottom of his toe. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, he instantly started screaming and couldn't walk, I thought maybe he had a sticker stuck on his foot or something. I looked at his foot and saw the stinger still stuck in him. I did the wrong thing and pulled it out instead of scraping it off(which prevents any venom still left from being excreted). Poor thing! I felt so bad for him, it would have been better if it happened to me. I scooped him up and we rushed him home, cleaned his wound with soap and water, put ice on it to reduce the swelling, made a baking soda paste and applied it, gave him Tylenol to help the pain, and finally blessed him with Holy Water(should have done this first!) Whew! Anyway, what does LOVE have to do with it all?? Well this has been a particularly bad week, the kids have been loud, fighting, loud, yelling, loud, running through the house, loud, teasing, and did I mention LOUD?? Well as Benny laid on the sofa...healing, I noticed a gathering around him. All the kids were trying to make him feel better, telling him stories about their past injuries, explaining the consequences to the bee, showing him pictures, and just loving him. For the first time this week, I saw genuine care and concern for the hardest people to love....our immediate family!

  1. What a neat post. Not the bee sting part, but you know what I mean.

  2. You write the loveliest posts, i'm glad Benny is doing well and that his 'nurses' are helping him through his ordeal!

I got stung once by a bee, I remember it clearly, I was about 5 years old and was sitting cross-legged on the carpet watching 'Solid Gold' (lol!) and the next thing I knew I felt a pain in my finger and saw the bee on me, I shook my finger and started screaming and ran out to the garage to tell my parents...I had done nothing to provoke it either!

Am not a huge fan of bees :(
